Now that the show is gearing up for a leap, all is sad to see the present Antara gone...also Abhi...I will miss them too. The kids are very cute and are doing a great job in the acting dept. But I am somewhat bothered by the fact that so many here thinks the replacement or the older Antara should be as pretty as Zanyah (sorry abt the spelling) Well from the point of veiw of cont. it makes sense, but somehow I am getting the feeling that its more than just that. People want a to see a pretty face as Antara...period. So here comes my question. I posted this as an reply on another thread but thought abt. opening a new topic on this just to see what everyone thinks abt. this. May be I am wrong, being may be too touchy being a mom.
But why does everyone want a cute pretty face for Antara? Are all autistic kids high on the beauty scale? This show is for autism awareness...these people are acting, doing a great job, but the real life parents really have to struggle every day, every moment...let's not undermine their efforts by focussing on "pretty face" so much. The present Antara is very cute, but if she was not I feel many here would not like the drama even if the quality of the show was the same. That really saddens me. As a mother I would like to see people being loving, caring and tolerant towards "special" kids irrespective of their beauty quotient. Remember, Rani was not at all looking all pretty in Black, and yet the character touched our soul. Even saying "special" child makes me feel sad...to me every child is special. As they say on the show, autism is not a disease, its just that they are diff. The society should be made aware to accept different too. Thanks to the Aapki Antara team for all their efforts. Let's respect the feelings of all the parents out there who are trying hard to make the world more tolerant towards their "differently abled" child/children.

You are so right, somehow being beautiful makes it become palatable. for a society that is so fixated on perfection (only in others though), I guess making the characters beautiful or cute makes it easy for the message. don't they say a spoonful of sugar makes the medicine go down. In a society which is so fixated on certain standard of beauty (the commercials for the whiteness cream for instance), what is the most profitable way to do business, make it pretty. but atleast the makers so far have focused on the struggle in a decent and normal way even if they have succumbed to the cute factor

so inspite of agreeing with you fully, I am ok with the outward beautification of the character as at least make the viewer get hooked on and begin to see the inner beauty. It is a long haul for the society, but every bit helps.

@ goblue, very nicely said. thanks for sharing your thoughts. I do agree the society at large will be more accepting towards this if they see a pretty face suffering. Apparently people do not have much time for the struggles and pain of not so pretty ones ...sad but true.

Agree 100%. I have given the same reply in another thread.......
Compassion that emerges from our hearts is never really for the way a person looks but rather for the predicament the person finds himself in. Spastic and MR children dont look cute in the usual sense of the word. But that doesn't mean they are any less lovable. ❤️
The channel has used Zayn because she is cute and can pull crowds. Once the crowds have got hooked on to the serial, the channel will bring about major changes hoping that its loyal audiences will not desert it.

This is a show on Autism that's correct. So the same question can be asked in a different form...Are they not all on the beauty scale....Every Child is Beautiful in the eyes of God. But with a show on Autism.. We're speaking of the actors and we're speaking of pulling in more people to watch the show of what it's really about ( i love this show and want it to STAY for a long time).....They could of gotten any child to play the part...Then why so choose a beautiful girl like Zanyah??? It's like bees to honey....once you catch the public with a sweet cute girl like Zanyah then they will stay to learn more about the subject at hand which is Autism.,,,,
Having a show on a certain subject is all about how to bring it about....Aka selling it to the public.
Many of the audience are of young ages. People look for one to fit the role in acting skills and in looks. This little girl was new to acting. She pulled it off and to top it off she is very cute/beautiful which in a large sense drew many people to watch the show and in a HUGE part to learn more about this Disorder.....
Like an advertisement.....You want to send a message you use the ultimate to do it. Yeah they could of picked any child off the street for this role. But they picked a beauty who turned out to be a terrific little actress. Sorry to say but it's a fact exterior sells in all things when trying to deliver a message especially on telly. So I will say YES the little child pulled in alot of people but to match her in the leap it would be great to find someone equally the same to keep the audience tuned in to learning more about Autism. Many will stay regardless of the pick....But for all who love this little beauty we want them too actually pick someone equally the same who can bring across the message to even the vast # of mature audience in India to making sure they watch it everyday for it to be KEPT on Zeetv. As we know channels change like the weather. So awareness or not. If the show doesn't pick up within a time frame they will do what they need to do regardless of what the fans want.

yes autistic kids are actually high on beauty scale! from my knowledge Autistic children do tend to be exceptionally pretty, their innocence reflects on their faces... and this is from all the autistic kids I encountered and it was also mentioned in one of the books... (that's a little educational look at it). An interesting dicussion I was having in my class about the link between autism and Vitamin D deficiancy, where we came to the revelation that most autistic children are very light skined.....
But I agree on your point, beauty is not important at all. It should be the acting and effort that the actors put in to display the hardships faced by an autistic child and his/her family. It really shouldn't matter if the older Antara is pretty looking or not but I guess we all just want to have a face that resembles Zaynah's innocence....
I admire the efforts the Aap Ki Antara team and Zee tv have done to make this show and to display such a condition to the audience, to spread the awareness of autism and clear all the asumptions of autism being an illness. The leap is important to portray the progress Antara has made from her treatment and we really should not worry about whether the post leap Antara will be as pretty as Zaynah.

Pretty face or not, all that matters to me is
that awareness of autism reaches as many people as possible.

It is easier to get the message across with a pretty face.
Good job creatives! 👏
