I think this serial is inspired/copied from Masoom more than Taare Zameen Per.

In TZP, the boy had dyslexia, he wasnt autistic at all. He just had an educational handicap where he jumbled up numbers and letters, otherwise he was fully functional in all daily matters. His lethargy and non-participation in class was due to his frustration with reading letters and numbers.

But here Antara has autism, which is a far more serious illness and quite irreversible. Autistic children are often brilliant in one aspect of brain, like Antara is a mathematical genius. But they cannot communicate or function in real life situations. They dont look at u when u speak to them. They repeat the same action, hardly talk when spoken to.

Autism is a brain development disorder characterized by impaired social interaction and communication, and by restricted and repetitive behavior

I feel this serial is a copy of the 80s movie Masoom, which starred Jugal Hansraj as the illegitimate son of Naseeruddin Shah. His wife Shabana had no idea he had an affair when he had gone on a business tour. But suddenly Naseer gets news of that other woman's death, he goes there and finds out he has a son. He is forced to bring him back, Shabana is furious that her husband cheated on her. She refuses to accept the child but doesnt leave the house, which I found rather odd. Maybe becuz she had 2 daughters and couldnt leave them there nor could she take them along.
Anyway, the other woman's child gradually wins over her heart with his charm and innocence. And she accepts the child in the end.

The famous song :"Lakdi ki Kathi" was in the movie. Masoom was in turn copied from a Hollywood movie starring Martin Sheen with same storyline of marital infidelity and other woman's child turning up in a happy household, shattering its calm.

It was Martin Sheen not Charlie. The movie is in turn based on a book by Erich Segal - Man Woman & Child.

Oh Yes! Sorry I confused father and son....it was Martin Sheen, not Charlie. 😆
Thanks for pointing that out. And yes, it was Eric Segal's book which inspired that movie. 😃

I too got the impression that is is very similar to Masoom - the main difference however being that Juggal Hansraj was not autistic..But otherwise very similar. As to why Shabana did not leave the house - she tried to in an emotoional moment but her husband begs her not to for the sake of their daughters....Also remember this was a movie of the 80s where such things like "walking out" were still somewhat taboo..

NP. Charlie kinda is starting to look like Martin now. Old age. 😆 I think the show is inspired by Masoom/the book + other movies like Rainman (Autism) TZP (special needs children) etc. After all serials go on much longer than books and movies. They need more masala for plot khichdi.

Today's US Episode also had the song from Masoom "Do Naina or Ek Kahani!" And the scene was the SAME as the one from Masoom - mom singing to her kid and the dad's child (Antara in this case ) coming in and silently listening. The difference was that in Masoom she was singing to her two daughters - here she sings to her one son..
