How about in keeping in lines with the original premise of the story and characters? Just have the guy reject Simi on the first meeting. The guy is horrified at seeing Simi thinking she is fat, with pimples etc. It's going to end the idea that there has to something wrong with him make him into another Rajeev Bhala. It will also keep in lines with the idea that everyone rejects Simi.
The guy sees Simi and then asks to speak with the parents (or Manju only) alone. Abhi stays in the room as a support or bystander. He tells Manju what he thinks of Simi. Of course Abhi is relieved that he's rejected Simi but not at all pleased with him putting down his girl (because it's insulting to his taste). Abhi then says something to the affect that the guy is shallow and the guy says something to the effect, "well if you think she's so great, you marry her" and bids his farewell and leaves and that is the last we see of him. Of course Abhi says nothing to validate his comment because this is NOT the right time.
Of course Abhi's comments will win both parents over and they will think he's a nice guy. Manju will think damn, I just wish he was old enough to be the right age for Simi and then I could have got them hitched. R. Seethi also thinks "Abhi be my son-in-law." The idea is to plant a seed for Abhi to look good and even more welcome into the household as a person.
Now, the scene can also take on another angle with Manju angered at Abhi's defense of Simi to Nikhul and fears that it pushes him (Nikhul) away as he might interpret it as an insult. You know how some mothers are; if someone insults their child, they will go along with them rather than confront them? After he leaves Manju confronts Abhi to which Abhi will say something in defense of Simi. R. Seethi will be impressed at his comment and admires hiim for for it.
Either way, the point is Abhi ends up looking the "good guy" and Simi gets to know about it. It charms Simi and makes her realize how wonderful Abhi really is for her.
It also gives Abhi the chance to tell Simi to take this as a chance to tell her mother to cut back on the push for a rishta so that they can have a chance to work things out for each other. A funny scene would be for Abhi to teach Simi how to confront her mother. It could the wittest scene of role playing and confidence building for Simi.
That's my take on the whole take on the Nakul guy - hopefully he will be a shortlived character as he has not been annouced as a key character by any of the media agencies.
