Chapter 33

The following day, Anurag is alone in Priya father's repair shop, working on his bike. Anurag's uncle comes through the door.

Anurag: (cleaning his hand with a rag) Hey chachu, how are you? What are you doing here?

Chachu: I'm fine, just on vacation. I when to your house, your mom told me that you'll be here, so I came on down. (Pauses) so this is your girlfriend's repair shop.

Anurag: (working on his bike) she just a friend.

Chachu: So you're still going out with Manisha.

Anurag: yeah

Chachu: cool. Anyways, what is this thing I'm hearing about a race to shut so and so mouth.

Anurag: it's nothing just this kid name Vicky telling people about my past.

Chachu: oh. But I thought you were out of the whole bad boy get-up.

Anurag: I am. It's just that he's telling people what I did in the past. And if I win the race, he'll tell everyone that he lied. And if he wins he wants a kiss from Manisha and everything will go as it is.

Chachu: what a cheap-

Anurag: (cutting him off) yeah I know

Chachu: so what are you doing?

Anurag: (sarcastic) working on my bike

Chachu: I could see that, but why?

Anurag: well Pritem and Manisha got into an accident.

Chachu: Are their ok?

Anurag: yeah, but that wreck my bike. So I'm working on it.

Chachu: but why don't you ask you dad -

Anurag: Chachu, you know he won't give me money for a new bike.

Chachu: he's still on that.

Anurag: yup!

Chachu: I wish I could have helped you. But your dad wouldn't let me hear the end of it.

Anurag: I wasn't going to ask you to give me any money anyways.

Anurag's Chachu helps Anurag fix his bike. While working Anurag's Chachu begins to smoke.

Anurag: when did you start smoking?

Chachu: A long time ago. I just never smoked in front of you.

Anurag: Why did you start?

Chachu: remember when my business fell, I was in stress so I just smoked one. It helped ease the stress. But I got addicted. And it has been a habit since.

Anurag: oh. Just don't let mom see you, she hates smoker.

Chachu: Yeah I know.

After a few minutes Anurag's Chachu gets up to leave.

Chachu: well I should go now. Your mom is making my favorite dish, bindi. You want me to drive you home.

Anurag: no. I going to stay here till I get half the bike fixed, so I can leave the rest for tomorrow.

Chachu: ok see you at home. Bye

Anurag: bye

Anurag continues. Priya comes into check up on him.

Priya: hey what you up to.

Anurag: (screwing in something) I'm almost done. (Pauses) there you go. (Getting up wiping his hand with a rag) I left some for tomorrow. After that I'll be done.

Priya: ok. Anyways can you do me a favor?

Anurag: yeah sure what.

Priya: can you teach me how to fix the engine of my car.

Anurag: (laughing) what? You want me to teach you. You? (Pauses) a girl!

Priya: so

Anurag: (laughing) just leave it to me to do that job. (Pauses) you're so funny.

Priya: stop being a sexist pig and tell me if you're going to help me.

Anurag: (laughing lowers down to a giggle) ok come down here tomorrow at 6. (Pauses) scratch that I have to go somewhere. Make that at 3.

Priya: where do you go by the way?

Anurag: oh God, not you too. Just tell everyone their find out soon. Anyways I have to go. (Pauses) Are you or should I -

Priya: no you go I'll close up.

Anurag leaves. Priya looks over to the tools.
