Wajid Khan Dies at 42: Amitabh Bachchan, Sonam, Akshay, Varun Shocked and Heartbroken; Bollywood Pays Heartfelt Tribute

Music composer Wajid Khan of the popular musical duo Sajid-Wajid passed away in the early hours of Monday after complications due to a kidney infection. It is also reported that the singer was Coronavirus positive and succumbed to the novel virus. 

Wajid’s untimely demise has left his family, friends and fans shocked and heartbroken. Music composer Salim Merchant confirmed the news of his death and told PTI, “He had multiple issues. He had a kidney issue and had a transplant a while ago. But recently he got to know about kidney infection... He was on the ventilator for the last four days, after his situation started getting worse. Kidney infection was the beginning and then he got critical.”

Several Bollywood personalities such as Amitabh Bachchan, Priyanka Chopra, Varun Dhawan, Parineeti Chopra, Arbaaz Khan, Preity Zinta and others have come forward and paid tribute to Wajid Khan.

Amitabh Bachchan wrote on Twitter, “Shocked at the passing of Wajid Khan .. a bright smiling talent passes away .. duas , prayers and in condolence.” 

Varun shared a picture of his father David Dhawan, with Wajid and wrote, “shocked hearing this news @wajidkhan7 bhai was extremely close to me and my family. He was one of the most positive people to be around. We will miss u Wajid bhai thank u for the music.” 

Sonam Kapoor shared a picture with Wajid and wrote: “Rest in peace #WajidKhan”

Akshay Kumar grieved: “Shocked and saddened to hear about the untimely demise of #WajidKhan, talented and ever-smiling...gone too soon. May God give strength to his family in this difficult time”

Priyanka Chopra wrote on Twitter, “Terrible news. The one thing I will always remember is Wajid bhai's laugh. Always smiling. Gone too soon. My condolences to his family and everyone grieving. Rest in peace my friend. You are in my thoughts and prayers.” 

Parineeti Chopra wrote, “Wajid Bhai you were the nicest, nicest nicest man! Always smiling. Always singing. All heart. Every music session with him was memorable. You will truly be missed wajid bhai.”

Arbaaz Khan wrote on Twitter, “RIP Wajid bhai you will be deeply missed. The music industry has lost a gem. Gone to soon. My heartfelt condolences to the grieving family and friends. Allah jannat naseeb kare.

Members of the music industry such as Vishal Dadlani, Adnan Sami, Shankar Mahadevan, Sonu Nigam, Harshdeep Kaur and others also grieved Wajid’s loss with heartfelt messages.

The Khan brothers, Sajid-Wajid composed music for several Salman movies like Hello Brother, Tumko Na Bhool Paayenge, Garv, Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, Partner, God Tussi Great Ho, Wanted, Main Aurr Mrs Khanna, Veer and Dabangg (1, 2 and 3) among more.

Some of Wajid’s popular songs include Soni De Nakhre, Jalwa, Hud Hud Dabangg and Chinta Ta Ta Chita Chita. His last work was also for his godfather Salman Khan for the song ‘Bhat Bhai’ that was released on Eid a few days ago.
