Veteran Odia actor Uttam Mohanty passes away at the age of 66 in Delhi

Veteran Odia actor Uttam Mohanty passed away on Thursday evening while receiving treatment at a hospital in Gurugram, Haryana. He was 66 years old. Numerous dignitaries, including Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, expressed their sorrow at the passing of this legendary figure in Odia cinema.

In a heartfelt tribute, CM Majhi on Friday referred to Mohanty as a "beacon" of the Odia film industry.

For over two decades, he remained an undisputed hero in Odia cinema. He was an icon of Odia art world. His contribution to the industry is unparalleled. Besides Odia movies, Mohanty also acted in many Bengali movies and even in Hindi movie, elevating the stature of Odia films to new heights. His demise is an irreparable loss to the world of Odia art

In a gesture of respect, the Chief Minister has ordered a state funeral for the late Uttam Mohanty. CM Majhi expressed his condolences to the grieving family and offered prayers for the departed soul's peace.

Majhi also spoke with Babushaan, Mohanty's son and a prominent Odia film actor, to offer his support. He assured Babushaan that the state government would facilitate the transportation of Mohanty's remains from Delhi to Bhubaneswar.

It is noteworthy that Mohanty had been battling liver complications. He was airlifted to Medanta Hospital in Delhi for treatment on February 8th.

Mohanty's illustrious career spanned over 135 Odia films, several television series, 30 Bengali films, and even a Hindi film, "Naya Zaher."

He was born and raised in Baripada, Mayurbhanj district, and his passion for acting emerged during his college years.

Uttam Mohanty stands as a singular figure in Odia cinema, holding the top spot for nearly two decades, dominating the industry throughout the 1980s and 1990s. He was married to the renowned Odia actress Aparajita Mohanty.
