Jon Bleicher, handling communications for his family, told Times Now Digital, “Zakir is in hospital but still alive at this time. I will provide updates if there are any official statements.”

Rumors of his demise caused widespread concern, prompting a response from an account claiming to belong to his nephew, Ameer Aulia. The X account (@AmeerAulia) shared, “I am Zakir Hussain's nephew, and he has not passed away. We request prayers for his recovery.” Aulia also posted a photograph of Hussain with his mother, asserting the misinformation is causing unnecessary distress.

Zakir Hussain’s sister, Khurshid Aulia, confirmed to mid-day that her brother is alive but critically ill. She said, “The news of his passing away is false. However, he is in a very, very critical condition.” Aulia added that the family is awaiting updates from his wife, who promised to release an official statement if his condition worsens. Until then, the family has requested prayers for the maestro.
