The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has officially filed a closure report in the high-profile death case of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput. Officials confirmed on Saturday that the report was submitted to a special court in Mumbai. The court will now decide whether to accept the report or direct further investigation.

Sushant Singh Rajput was found hanging in his Mumbai apartment in Bandra on June 14, 2020. He was 34 years old. The case, initially investigated by the Mumbai Police, was later taken over by the CBI after a complaint filed by the actor’s father, K.K. Singh, in Bihar. He had alleged that Sushant’s then-girlfriend, actress Rhea Chakraborty, and her family were responsible for abetment of suicide and financial fraud.

The CBI conducted a thorough investigation, which included statements from Chakraborty, her family, and those close to Sushant. The agency also collected the late actor’s medical records and forensic evidence. A team from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) had earlier ruled out theories of poisoning or strangulation, confirming that Sushant’s death was due to suicide.

Following Sushant’s death, Rhea Chakraborty and her brother, Showik Chakraborty, were arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in a drug-related case linked to the investigation. After spending a few months in custody, both were granted bail. The actor’s death had triggered a massive media storm, leading to widespread debates on nepotism, mental health, and drug use in Bollywood.

In memory of the late actor, his Patna residence was turned into a memorial, displaying his personal belongings like a telescope, books, and guitar. Sushant made his Bollywood debut with Kai Po Che! and later delivered hit films like MS Dhoni: The Untold Story, Chhichhore, Kedarnath, and Sonchiriya. His final film, Dil Bechara, was released posthumously and received immense love from fans.

With the CBI’s closure report ruling out any foul play, this marks the end of a long and emotionally charged investigation into the actor’s untimely demise.
