Twinkle Khanna, who made her Bollywood debut with Barsaat in 1995, appeared in films like Mela, Joru Ka Ghulam, and Baadshah before stepping away from the silver screen. The former actress has since built a career as an author and film producer. Recently, Twinkle revealed she was fortunate to have her husband, Akshay Kumar, support her decision to relocate to London with their daughter, Nitara. However, she admitted she would have made the move regardless of his approval.
Speaking at a FICCI FLO event, Twinkle opened up about growing up in an unconventional family where seeking permission was never a norm. Recalling Akshay's support, she said, "I was quite lucky that my husband, Akshay Kumar, didn't have any problem with her shifting to another country with daughter Nitara."
She added, "But even if he would not have been fine, I would have still done it, but it would have been very difficult and traumatic. There would be a lot of yelling and screaming, but he was okay with it."
Twinkle shared that after completing her 12th grade, she initially aspired to become a chartered accountant. However, she entered the film industry, fulfilling the wishes of her parents, the late superstar Rajesh Khanna and celebrated actress Dimple Kapadia.
In 2024, at the age of 49, Twinkle returned to academics. After pursuing short-term online courses during the pandemic, she enrolled as a full-time student and completed her master’s degree at Goldsmiths, University of London, graduating earlier this year.
Following her graduation, Akshay Kumar shared a heartfelt note on Instagram, writing, "The day I saw you work so hard and perfectly manage a full-fledged student life along with home, career, me, and kids, I knew I had married a superwoman."
Twinkle Khanna last appeared on screen in the 2001 film Love Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega. As a producer, she last backed Akshay Kumar’s 2018 film, Pad Man. She is also the author of books like Mrs Funnybones, The Legend of Lakshmi Prasad, and Pyjamas Are Forgiving.
