Along with the dazzling stardom, celebrities also enjoy a position of power. The pleasure of being in the public eye comes along a sense of responsibility for the stars. With films like Akshay Kumar starrer Padman, the topic of menstruation and the problems related to it have come in the spotlight. Not just Bollywood celebs, but the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle has often spoken of empowering women in slums, which also drew her to a Mumbai-based foundation. Matching her footsteps, actress Taapsee Pannu has joined the same NGO to create awareness about menstrual education.

Talking to Mumbai Mirror, the Pink actress said, “Having periods is common to Meghan Markle, me and every other woman in the world. With great power comes great responsibility, and if people like her contribute and support this kind of initiative, it widens its reach, as she is in a power position.”

Taapsee is known to have a strong opinion in the industry and raises her concern and support towards certain social issues of girl safety, equality, issues prevailing to religion and many more. The actress has notably carved a niche for herself in the showbiz, owing to her choice of scripts. Having done films like Pink and Mulk in the recent past, she is known to take up projects packed with a social message.

She further added that the children should be educated about periods before the adolesce. She said, “There’s a chapter about menstruation in biology, but by the time you deal with it, you have already heard about it from sources in a weird way, and you’re hushing the topic and getting awkward in the class.” Taapsee emphasized that awkwardness should be cut-off while discussing this topic. “The first step should be to talk about it, as a regular period determines the health of a female. It is because we don’t talk about it, a lot of health hazards are not addressed.”

The Game Over actress also raised a question on why sanitary pads are wrapped or given in black polythene bags and why it can't be carried openly.

This is definitely a notably empowering initiative taken by the actress and we are all praises for her! More power to Taapsee for taking this issue up and spreading the very important message with this discussion.

On the work front, the actress will be seen as a scientist in Mission Mangal along with Akshay Kumar, Nithya Menen, Sonakshi Sinha, Vidya Balan, Sharman Joshi, and Kirti Kulhari. It is set to hit the screens on August 15, 2019.
