Sunjay Kapur’s wife Priya Sachdev calls Sunjay and Karisma’s marriage as 'Not Conventional'

Following the passing of industrialist Sunjay Kapur this month due to a heart attack during a polo match, an old interview with his third wife, Priya Sachdev, has resurfaced. In the interview, Priya discussed their meeting, their "blended" family dynamic with Sunjay's children from previous marriages, and how his relationship with Karisma Kapoor differed from a traditional marriage.

In an interview with SCREEN, Priya reflected on Sunjay's marriage to Karisma Kapoor, stating, "Sunjay's previous marriage was not a conventional marriage. He had two beautiful children from that marriage. We love them dearly, and today we are one beautiful blended family." While Priya didn't mention Karisma by name, Sunjay was previously married to the Bollywood actress before their marriage.

Karisma Kapoor and Sunjay Kapoor married in 2002. Their divorce, finalized in 2016, drew significant media attention due to serious allegations. Karisma accused Sunjay of domestic abuse, while Sunjay alleged that she had married him for financial gain.

In a 2016 interview with Hindustan Times, Randhir Kapoor, Karisma's father, who had always been vocal about his disapproval of the marriage, expressed his criticism of Sunjay, saying, “Sunjay is a third-class man… Everyone knows our ­credentials. We are Kapoors. We don’t need to run after anyone’s money. We have been blessed with not only money, but our talent can support us for the rest of our lives… I never wanted Karisma marrying him… The entire Delhi knows how he is. I would not like to say anything more than this."

Karisma has not remarried and has kept her romantic life private. In 2022, during an Instagram AMA session with fans, when asked about remarriage, she responded with a GIF of a confused Quinta Brunson and wrote, "Depends."

Sunjay Kapur, who passed away in the UK at the age of 53 due to a reported heart attack during a polo match, was a prominent figure in business and sports. As the chairman of Sona Comstar, he was a major player in the automotive industry. Additionally, he was actively involved in motorsports and polo. His loss is felt across both business and sporting communities.

Sunjay Kapur, who married Karisma Kapoor in 2003, had two children, Samaira and Kiaan, with her. They separated in 2014 and divorced in 2016. In 2017, he married model Priya Sachdev and had a son, Azarias, while also co-parenting Priya’s daughter from a previous marriage.
