Sunjay Kapur's widow Priya Sachdev to get this designation at Sona Comstar; board appoints new chairman

A day after the prayer meet of late Sunjay Kapur in Delhi, Sona Comstar has announced the new chairman of the firm. The position has been given to Jeffrey Mark Overly. The board of directors took a unanimous decision on the same. Sona Comstar is a Rs 39,000 crore auto component firm with businesses in Eastern Europe, Mexico and Asia. Some days back they had announced that Vivek Vikram Singh will continue as the CEO and their decision to appoint a new CM. Late Sunjay Kapur’s wife Priya Sachdev will also get a designation.

Today, the directors held an emergency meeting to appoint the new chairman. Jeffrey Overly Mark has been an independent director of the firm since February 2021.

“Overly has been on the board of the company for almost 5 years now and has an excellent attendance record all (100 per cent) the Board and Committees meetings held during his tenure, contributing significantly to the deliberations and decision making of the Board and its committees, despite being in a different time zone.”

Sunjay Kapur made Sona Comstar a global name in the auto component business. The late tycoon has been declared as the chairman emeritus of Sona Comstar. It seems the board on the recommendation of the Nomination and Remuneration Committee (NRC), approved the appointment of Priya Sachdev Kapur, his widow as an Additional Non-Executive Director of the Company. However, this is subject to approval from shareholders.

Priya Sachdev also has connections to the auto business. Her father is one of the biggest car dealers in India. She has done her studies from the London School Of Economics. The demise of Sunjay Kapur on the same day as the Ahmedabad Plane Crash shocked everyone. He has three biological children, Samaira and Kiaan Raj Kapoor from Karisma Kapoor. His third wife Priya and he had a son, Azarias.
