Suniel Shetty, known for his grounded personality and long-lasting marriage with Mana Shetty, has opened up about how he sees the institution of marriage evolving in today's fast-paced world and his comments are bound to stir conversation.
In a recent interaction with Pinkvilla, the Hera Pheri star got candid about the shifts in relationships and why he believes patience is slowly disappearing from modern marriages. Sharing his thoughts, Suniel remarked that relationships today are under immense pressure and people are quick to walk out without giving things time to settle.
"Patience is missing in today's generation," he said, adding that marriage eventually becomes a space of mutual understanding and compromise. "You start living for each other. Then when a child comes into the picture, it's important for the wife to understand that if the husband is focused on building his career, she'll need to take care of the child," Suniel stated, while also clarifying that the husband must remain involved too.
The statement, though possibly made with traditional intent, is already raising eyebrows across social media. Many netizens may see this as a regressive viewpoint that puts the burden of parenting primarily on women, something that's likely to ignite backlash as the clip circulates online.
Further elaborating on the pressures couples face today, Suniel pointed out that the digital age is filled with unsolicited advice. "Everyone wants to tell you how to be a mother, a father, what to eat, what to do… but I believe you learn best from your family, your mother, grandmother, sisters, in-laws. Take what works for you, leave the rest," he explained.
Interestingly, the actor also reflected on his own marriage with Mana Shetty, calling it a bond that's survived resistance and challenges. He revealed that his parents weren't initially in favour of their union as Mana didn't belong to the same community. Yet, when he signed his debut film, he chose to marry her brushing aside concerns that marriage might hurt his career.
