Isn't the national flag for every Indian citizen? Doesn't it represent anyone who is legally a citizen of India, who holds a Indian passport? Is it just for soldiers? So does that mean only soldiers or people who die for their country hold rights to the nation's flag? I am not disregarding the soldiers who lose their lives protecting their fellow countrymen, of course they should be credited, they made a choice to give up their own comforts for the nation, but every INDIAN matters. This flag belongs to anyone who identifies themselves as Indians. Sridevi worked hard to entertain her fans, not only her fans, but she contributed tremedulously to the society benefit i.e charity, helping others in their discomfort. I do believe these should be recognised as part of being an Indian, because she made people laugh and smile in her acting and entertaining others. She might have saved someone in depression with her movies, giving a smile to people with her radiant smile, letting them believe even for a moment to have a glimmer of hope in their lives or to just be happy. She might contributed more to the Indian Society, some which may not know about. The govt would not approve just like that without any reason. With all these reasons and more, I do believe she had earned such a national funeral. Just my humble opinion. However, if anyone does have an issue with it, write to the PM, start a petition, if you have courage. Ask questions to them.

you can actually search on the internet.. tricolor draping is for soldiers or people who lost their life while showing bravery for the nation..@sribha, exactly my point.
i read about this incident after this article and i came to know that actually Maharashtra govt. approved this because she was a legendary actress... i mean didnt they automatically grant the same privileges to all so called legendary actors now..? lots of people won padamshree awards... a different way of respect could have been shown if they really wanted to do that.. but draping in tricolor.. no matter what arguments people come up with.. i still dont support this.. it is for soldiers and it should remain for soldiers.. dont degrade the value of national flag..

She was draped in tri-color and was given state salute cz she was a Padmashri awardee, 4th highest civilian honour in India. Though I agree that such respect should only be for soldiers.

Did she sacrifice her life for the nation? Common she lost her life in a drunken state.

I agree with the comments below. Such a high honour is only meant to be for our brave soldiers who sacrifice their lives for the country. But as per my understanding, the tiranga is also given to anybody who has been awarded a Padma award. Sridevi was awarded a Padmashri. Is that why she was wrapped in tiranga? Please correct me if I am wrong.

RIP Srideviji...But I am highly offended by the fact that my Soldier brothers are put at the same level as some film actress or actor. State honours and Tri-color is reserved for only soldiers and people who have given life to the country in all nations...In India, people use it like anything...Also so many cops were busy being security for these actors and netas who attended the funeral at the expense of public funding...While probably there were millions cases pending in each and every police station...Sorry bollywood people, no offence, but man in uniform are not there to be your security guards...Highly offended. And sorry to my soldier brothers that in your owner there no people gathers, there is no publicity given and no security is given, no funds are made available, no jets are flown to bring your body home safely...But all of these facilities are available to movie stars...I am sorry my soldier brothers that an honour that should be specifically reserved for you, netas and others are using it according to their own will...RIP srideviji, but, I value my soldiers more than any actor anyday...And shame on media, why you did not cover any soldier sacrifice for 4 days, while this death is being covered like anything :( I am saddened and highly disappointed...Tri-color should be reserved for my soldiers and people who sacrifice their lives in the line of duty, not for anyone and everyone :( Atleast they deserve that much respect compared to others :( And why was green corridor provided to the ambulance carrying her body??? seriously, there are millions of people dying in India because ambulance doesn't reach on time because they are not given green corridor no minister ever does anything for that...however, green corridor was provided for a dead person??? shame on these people :(

@itsokaysammy and GoldenEyes: let me enlighten you that tiranga is draped on all those who have done something for the country...it can be in any field...that is not relevant...just your work is taken into consideration and Sri has dedicated her life entertaining people. It is done to all noted people without any discrimination as to how they served the nation. I hope this clarifies your doubt

@itsokaysammy: exactly what i thought when I saw it. They just cheapened the whole act! Nothing against SD but she really didn't sacrifice anything in her life

no offence to SD.. may her soul rest in peace.. but isn't tricolor drape for people who sacrificed their life for nation? i mean tiranga is a national flag and no one can use it just because they want to..
