Smriti Mandhana’s fiancé Palash Muchhal admitted to hospital amid her father's health emergency

In a sudden turn of events, Indian women's cricket team star Smriti Mandhana was forced to postpone her wedding ceremony on Sunday. The festivities were abruptly halted when her father experienced symptoms resembling a heart attack, prompting an immediate response with an ambulance dispatched to the venue. He was swiftly transported to a local hospital. The medical emergency within the family led Smriti to halt the ceremony, refusing to proceed without her father's presence.

Palash Muchhal hospitalized

Adding to the distress, it was later revealed that Smriti's fiancé, Palash Muchhal, also required hospitalization due to a decline in his health.

Sources from NDTV have confirmed that Palash Muchhal sought treatment at a private hospital due to a viral infection and increased acidity, though the condition was not severe. Following medical attention, Palash has since been discharged from the hospital and returned to the hotel.

Health update of Smriti’s father

According to Dr. Naman Shah, the family doctor, a medical team is closely monitoring the health of Smriti Mandhana's father. If his condition improves as anticipated, he may be discharged later today.

"At around 1.30 pm, Mr Srinivas Mandhana got left-sided chest pain, we call it 'angina' in medical terms. As the symptoms surfaced, his son called me, we sent an ambulance, he was shifted to hospital. We found out in ECG, other reports, that cardiac enzymes are elevated, hence we need to keep him in observation," he told PTI.

"Blood pressure is also elevated, efforts are on to lower it. The whole team is monitoring. If situation exacerbates, we will have to do angiography. Smriti and her family are in contact with us."

In Sangli, Maharashtra, Smriti Mandhana's hometown, a week of celebrations had been underway in anticipation of the wedding ceremony scheduled for Sunday. However, the entire program, including the remaining rituals and the wedding itself, has been postponed indefinitely. The revised date and schedule for the festivities will be determined by the progress of Smriti's father's health.
