A member of the Shiv Sena IT cell lodged a complaint against US based online streaming giant, Netflix accusing that the platform is defaming Hindus globally. Complainant Ramesh Solanki filed an FIR at Mumbai's LT Marg police station and cited examples of web content like Sacred Games, Leila, Ghoul and the shows of standup comedian Hasan Minhaj, accusing Netflix of trying to "paint an incorrect picture of Hindus and India globally."

According to reports, Solanki urged the authorities to look into the mentioned content and take necessary action against them. He also suggested to summon their team or to cancel their licenses, whichever deemed fit to the concerned authorities.

In his complaint, Solanki stated, "Almost every series on Netflix India is with the intention to defame the country on a global level. It is with deep-rooted Hinduphobia that the platform is portraying the nation in a bad light,"

“I urge the authorities to look into all of the above-mentioned content and take the necessary steps from summoning their team to cancelling their licenses as deemed fit. One cannot allow an incorrect generalisation based on bogus rhetoric trying to defame a religious minority, that is, Hindu in countries other than India," he added.

Mr Solanki has urged the police to "take necessary legal action" against Netflix for "hurting Hindu sentiments."

Earlier, a member from the Akali Dal slammed Netflix and the team of Sacred Games 2 over a ‘kada scene’, which he urged Netflix India to be removed as it hurt the religious sentiments of Sikhs.
