Shekar Kapur Reveals How Hours Before His Death, Heath Ledger Asked Him To Wake Him Up

The industry continues to mourn the absolutely shocking death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput where the actor committed suicide in his apartment in Mumbai. Director Shekhar Kapur was indirectly connected to Rajput where the duo initially planned to work together in a film but that couldn't be materialised. And recently, Kapur and actor Manoj Bajpayee held a live chat on Instagram where they paid a tribute to Rajput for his work.

It was during the same conversation where Kapur revealed another shocking incident from back in 2008 when the iconic Heath Ledger passed away due to accidental drug overdose. In the chat, Kapur said, “I worked with this fantastic actor called Heath Ledger and I did one of his first films. I was in New York and we were talking about a film we were going to do - The Nine O'Clock War - and he was going to do the lead role in it. We were going to meet.”

He further revealed that Ledger called him and rescheduled the meeting, He called me and he said, ‘Shekhar, mind if we don’t meet this evening? I am a little jet-lagged. Let’s meet tomorrow.’ I said okay. He said, ‘Call me at 9.30, just wake me up.’”

Further, Kapur said that at 9:30 in the morning, he felt to not wake Ledger up as he was jet-lagged and that is when he said,  “Around 11.30, the friend I was staying with said, ‘Shekhar, sit down, I have something to tell you. Heath Ledger is dead.’ I said, ‘Hang on, I just spoke to him.’ And he was gone."
