Salman Khan’s war film prep at 60 stuns crew, details on Galwan Valley drama out

As Salman Khan readies himself for his next cinematic venture, details about his rigorous preparation for the upcoming war drama based on the 2020 Galwan Valley conflict have emerged. The actor, currently 60, is set to portray Colonel Bikumalla Santosh Babu, the decorated Army officer who lost his life during the clash.

The film, helmed by director Apoorva Lakhia, is based on the book India's Most Fearless 3 and is scheduled to begin shooting in July 2025. Ahead of this, Khan is reportedly undergoing intense physical and emotional training. A source involved with the production shared that the actor is treating this project not as just another film, but as a “mission.”

“He’s not just preparing to carry the weight of the uniform—he’s carrying the weight of the story,” the source told Bollywood Hungama. The actor is reportedly pushing himself through challenging workouts to prepare for the physical demands of shooting in high-altitude locations like Leh. The preparation involves not just the physical strain of filming in tough terrains, but also the responsibility of portraying a real-life hero with sensitivity and respect.

The source further added, “The AK-47 he'll be seen with is symbolic, but the real test is enduring the thinner air, long shoots, and rugged terrain. This prep isn’t just physical; it’s about doing justice to a national hero.”

Salman’s approach to the role is said to be deeply respectful. According to insiders, he views this project as an opportunity to honour the memory of Colonel Babu, who was posthumously awarded the Maha Vir Chakra. “He’s training not just for the camera, but out of respect for every soldier who serves the nation,” the source mentioned.

The film is expected to go on floors in mid-2025, with Jio Studios reportedly in talks to join as a production partner. A theatrical release is planned for early 2026, aiming to match the scale and significance of the story it intends to tell.
