Salman Khan’s mid-parted hairstyle in Tere Naam is often remembered as one of the most talked-about style moments in early 2000s Bollywood. On the latest episode of The Great Indian Kapil Show Season 3, the actor finally spilled the truth behind that look, and the revelation has surprised many.

During the first episode of the new season, which premiered on Netflix on June 21, Salman appeared as the guest and shared candid moments, including fun banter and unexpected insights from his career. Among the most striking moments was Salman’s confession that his hairstyle in Tere Naam was inspired by two people — the late President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam and actor Rahul Roy. “Ye jo Tere Naam ka look hai, woh actually inspired tha Abdul Kalam saab se aur uss dauran I think Rahul Roy ka bhi same hairstyle tha,” Salman said during the show. He explained that he wanted the character of Radhe to resemble a small-town hero with long hair — a nod to old-school heroes who also sported similar looks.

Released in 2003, Tere Naam is considered one of Salman Khan’s most emotionally intense roles. He played Radhe Mohan, a rebellious college youth whose love story takes a tragic turn. Directed by Satish Kaushik, the film also featured Bhumika Chawla in the lead role. Its soundtrack, composed by Himesh Reshammiya, remains popular to this day.

Despite the meme-worthy attention the hairstyle garnered over the years, Salman’s performance in the film was widely noted as a turning point in his acting career. It showcased his capacity for emotional depth, deviating from his typical action-hero image of the time.

Salman’s revelation on The Great Indian Kapil Show has once again brought Tere Naam back into public discussion. Fans on social media were quick to share nostalgia-laced reactions, with many surprised to learn about the connection to Abdul Kalam — known more for his scientific legacy than style inspiration.

The episode also featured Salman’s trademark humour and self-deprecating wit, making it an engaging start to the show’s latest season.
