Saif Ali Khan Attack Case: Arrested Accused Confesses, Durg Suspect Released by Police

In a significant update on the Saif Ali Khan stabbing case, the arrested accused has confessed to the crime. The police in Mumbai apprehended a suspect this morning from Thane, who has now admitted his involvement in the attack. Meanwhile, another suspect, Akash Kanoji from Durg, who had been detained earlier, has been released by the police.

The arrested accused, a waiter at a local restaurant, made a shocking confession when he was questioned by the authorities. According to a police officer involved in the investigation, the accused openly admitted to the crime, stating, "Ha maine hi kiya (Yes, I did it)." This confession is a crucial development in the case, bringing clarity to the ongoing investigation.

Further reports have identified the attacker as Vijay Das, though authorities revealed that his true identity is Mohammad Shariful Islam Shahzad, a 30-year-old Bangladeshi national. Shahzad had been using several aliases, including Bijoy Das, Vijay Das, Mohammad Illyas, and BJ. Upon entering India, he allegedly changed his name to hide his origins.

In addition to his multiple identities, Shahzad reportedly changed locations frequently to avoid detection. He managed to evade CCTV surveillance by hiding in various areas of Mumbai, including Dadar and Worli. After 70 hours of evading capture, he was finally apprehended by the police in the Ghodbunder area of Thane, hidden in dense mangroves.

A police official revealed that Shahzad seemed paranoid during his capture, sensing that someone was close by. However, he was eventually arrested and brought to the Khar police station for further interrogation. He is expected to be presented in Bandra metropolitan court soon.

On the other hand, Akash Kanoji, who was initially suspected in the case, was released by the police after questioning. Speaking to ANI from a police jeep, he denied any involvement in the crime, saying, "I did not do anything wrong. I was brought here for questioning and now I have been released. I am not the accused."

The police confirmed that Kanoji was only a suspect and not the primary accused in the stabbing case. Saif Ali Khan, meanwhile, continues to receive treatment at Mumbai's Lilavati Hospital.
