Raveena Tandon returns to Tamil cinema after 24 years for 'Lawyer'

Raveena Tandon is returning to Tamil cinema after over two decades, signing on for a central role in the upcoming film Lawyer. Directed by Joshua Sethuraman, the project marks Tandon’s third appearance in a Tamil-language film, following Saadhu (1994) and Aalavandhan (2001).

The film, led by actor-composer Vijay Antony, explores the journey of a first-generation law student navigating both personal and systemic challenges. Tandon's role is expected to be pivotal to the film’s core message, which engages with issues of justice and social reform.

Vijay Antony, who also serves as producer through his banner Vijay Antony Film Corporation, welcomed Tandon on board through a social media post. Calling her a “powerhouse of talent,” Antony expressed enthusiasm about collaborating with the veteran actor in a film that aims to reflect real-world struggles within the legal framework.

Joshua Sethuraman, known for directing the critically received Gentlewoman, revealed that the film will focus on a young man from a modest background who strives to find his place in the legal profession. The director noted that Lawyer will aim to strike a balance between individual drama and broader commentary, grounding the narrative in everyday realities.

Production is scheduled to begin in June 2025, with filming primarily in Tamil. The movie will also be released in Hindi, Telugu, and Kannada. The multilingual rollout is part of a broader strategy to engage a wider audience with a subject that cuts across regional boundaries.

Tandon, who was recently seen in a brief appearance in Inn Galliyon Mein, is also set for roles in Housefull 5 and Welcome to the Jungle. Her participation in Lawyer represents a shift from her recent commercial outings, as the film’s premise offers her a chance to explore a different character arc.

Further announcements about the cast and technical crew are expected in the coming months.
