R Madhavan Dismisses Tanu Weds Manu 3 Rumours, Hints at Possible Replacement

Speculation about the third installment of Aanand L Rai's Tanu Weds Manu franchise has been making the rounds, with fans eagerly awaiting confirmation. However, R Madhavan has put the rumors to rest in a recent interview with SCREEN, addressing the swirling questions about his involvement in the potential sequel.

When asked about the possibility of a third part and whether Aanand L Rai had approached him, Madhavan clarified, “As much as I would like to talk about it, I really have no idea. It has just been on Instagram. The media and people are asking me these questions. Neither Anand nor anybody else has talked to me about part three.”

Adding fuel to the speculation, Madhavan hinted at the possibility of being replaced in the upcoming film. He said, “I have no clue and I don’t know what the script is. Maybe I am not there in it. Maybe they have replaced me. I haven’t got the faintest idea.”

Fans of the franchise will recall Madhavan and Kangana Ranaut's dynamic chemistry in the 2011 hit Tanu Weds Manu and its 2015 sequel Tanu Weds Manu Returns. Both films were lauded for their portrayal of an unconventional love story set against the vibrant backdrop of Uttar Pradesh, with strong performances from supporting actors like Swara Bhasker, Deepak Dobriyal, and Jimmy Sheirgill.

Despite the franchise's success, Madhavan has previously expressed disinterest in reprising his role as Manu. Speaking to YouTuber Jaby Koey, he remarked, “I think that’s water under the bridge. There is no point in beating a dead horse… You know, it’s so difficult to come up with original stuff, and then there are expectations of a film. See, if it’s a sequel to Avengers or a superhero series, it’s easier because you have a template. But with Tanu Weds Manu, it’s impossible. And I think I am done with it. I don’t want to go back to being Manu now.”

As fans await an official announcement, Madhavan’s statements leave the future of Tanu Weds Manu 3 in question, with the possibility of new faces joining the beloved franchise.
