John Abraham won hearts with his portrayal of the antagonist Jim in Shah Rukh Khan’s blockbuster Pathaan. The 2023 action-thriller was the fourth installment in the YRF Spy Universe. Ever since its release, fans have been speculating about a possible prequel focusing on Jim’s past. Now, John Abraham has addressed the rumors and given a major update on the project.
In a recent conversation with Pinkvilla, John was asked if there are any discussions about a spin-off featuring Jim’s backstory. He was also questioned about whether Aditya Chopra, the mastermind behind the YRF Spy Universe, has spoken to him about it.
With Adi, only he knows in his head what he's discussing with himself. Yes, there have been discussions. I hope it sees the light of day, but I honestly, and it's not like I'm trying to keep something away. I can't comment on it because I too don't know, but I hope it happens. It looks interesting, so I hope it happens.

His words have surely left fans excited, hoping that the prequel may soon become a reality. Apart from discussing Pathaan, John also opened up about the challenges of being typecast in Bollywood. After playing Jim, he was flooded with offers for negative roles. However, he has been very selective about his choices. Talking about this, he said, "From the south, from the north, from the east, from everywhere..." but added that he refuses such offers very quickly.
Explaining his decision, he said, "My father taught me one thing: learn to say no as easy as it is to say yes. So I say no, that's it. Finished, over." Clearly, John believes in making thoughtful career choices rather than following trends.
Meanwhile, the actor is currently promoting his latest film, The Diplomat. Directed by Shivam Nair, the espionage thriller stars Sadia Khateeb, Revathy, and others. It is backed by T-Series, JA Entertainment, Wakaoo Films, and Fortune Pictures. Fans are eagerly waiting to see John back in action on the big screen.
