#PurpleLipstick or Black: Does it really matter?

Read our opinion piece on the recent controversy over Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's purple lipstick.

The over-hyped controversy over Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's appearance at Cannes has left us in dismay. Being in a democratic country like India, we do have a right to say and opine what we feel. However, we have taken the liberty a step ahead. Just because a celebrity is quite popular and has a huge fan following, we can't be so judgmental on their looks and appearances.

If Aishwarya feels like wearing a purple lipstick, it's her choice of interest. How on earth does one get the right of judging someone for the fabric they wear or for the type and color of cosmetics they choose to prefer?  The answer lies within our own selves.

(This is one example from the many trolls, doing the rounds on the social media)

Friends, we need to know that social media is a platform to voice and express ourselves, but what do we do? Creating trolls, sharing them and making a mockery of every other celebrity on a public platform has become a regular trend.

It's just a simple fact that we have caught up in trivia and pay less heed to what needs more attention. Be it a celebrity or an ordinary being, it's their preference on what to wear and how do they carry it. Criticism is important but we actually need to reconsider about the topic that we chose to critic on. Also, are social media trolls the accurate way for criticism?

(This is just an opinion piece and views expressed are of the author's personal interest.)
