Priyanka Chopra's highly anticipated spy thriller, Citadel 2, has been delayed. The action-packed series, which had fans eagerly awaiting its release this year, has been pushed back. Unfortunately, the news extends beyond the main series, as all planned spin-offs are also on hold. Citadel fans will have to wait a bit longer to see what unfolds in this thrilling spy universe.
It seems like Amazon MGM isn't completely satisfied with the current state of Citadel 2. They're reportedly looking to make some adjustments before the show returns, pushing the release date to "spring 2026". This delay also impacts the planned spin-off series, which are now on hold "until the second season is released, if not indefinitely."
Citadel, the high-budget spy series, premiered in April 2023 with Priyanka Chopra and Richard Madden leading the cast. The six-episode show, featuring a star-studded ensemble including Stanley Tucci, Lesley Manville, Ashleigh Cummings, Roland Møller, and Rahul Kohli, became one of the most expensive television productions ever.
The story centers around Mason Kane (Richard) and Nadia Sinh (Priyanka), elite spies who lose their memories after their top-secret agency, Citadel, is destroyed. As they struggle to survive, they must piece together their past and confront new threats.
Priyanka Chopra has confirmed that filming for Citadel Season 2 has begun. The new season, penned by David Weil, will see Priyanka reprise her role as the formidable spy, Nadia Sinh. Interestingly, filming for Season 2 actually concluded in late November 2024. The series is executive-produced by AGBO, the production company of Joe and Anthony Russo.
Citadel's global reach extends beyond the main series, with multiple spin-offs set in various countries, including India, Spain, Mexico, and Italy. The Italian spin-off, Citadel: Diana, was the first to premiere, debuting on October 10, 2024. Directed by Arnaldo Catinari, it stars Matilda De Angelis, Lorenzo Cervasio, Maurizio Lombardi, and Julia Piaton.
Following the Italian release, the Indian version, Citadel: Honey Bunny, premiered on November 7, 2024. Starring Varun Dhawan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu, this thrilling adaptation is directed by the acclaimed duo Raj & DK.
