Priyanka Chopra’s journey in the Miss World pageant was marked by her firm beliefs and strong friendships. Her mother, Madhu Chopra, recently revealed that Priyanka had set clear boundaries for herself during the competition, refusing to wear a bikini in the swimwear segment. She also shared how Lara Dutta became a guiding force for Priyanka, teaching her ramp walk and makeup skills.
During her Miss World journey, Priyanka Chopra maintained her dignity and made choices that aligned with her values. While speaking to Lehren Retro, Madhu Chopra shared that Priyanka was asked to wear a two-piece swimsuit during the swimwear segment, but she refused, choosing to uphold her beliefs with professionalism.
Priyanka ka behaviour, uska conduct, kahin bhi… dekho swimwear mein bhi, they said, ‘Two piece pehno.’ She said, ‘Na.’ So, she maintained her dignity with professionalism. Ye nahi ki tantrum… (She didn’t throw tantrums). So they actually respected her for saying that.

Madhu Chopra also credited Lara Dutta for helping Priyanka during the competition. “Lara taught her how to drape, how to walk, and even how to apply makeup on her own. They had to do everything themselves. Priyanka toh kuchh nahi karti thi, sirf kajal (Priyanka didn’t do any of this, except applying kohl). So Lara is another high-quality person," she shared.
Priyanka has always acknowledged Lara’s support. In an old interview with Simi Garewal, Priyanka revealed that she and Dia Mirza fondly called Lara “mom” because of her nurturing nature. In the same show, Lara said, “For me, winning Miss India and Miss Universe was my primary focus. But life offers very few moments to positively impact others, and those moments define life for me.”
Lara and Priyanka’s journey did not end with pageantry. They both entered Bollywood together with the 2003 film Andaaz, starring Akshay Kumar. Their bond continues, and Priyanka remains in touch with Lara, proving that their friendship was built on genuine respect and support.
