Oscar 2023 Nominations

The shortlists for 10 Oscar categories were revealed by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on Thursday.

Both Shaunak Sen's documentary All That Breathes, a festival favourite, and the Gujarati feature 'The Last Film Show' succeeded in making it to the finals of best International Feature' nomination. It's important to mention that Last Film Show's Oscar submission caused quite a stir because many people preferred India's official choice for the International Feature category nomination to be the more well-liked and financially successful RRR.

Notwithstanding a vigorous campaign, the film RRR, directed by SS Rajamouli, only advanced in the Music (Original Song) category for the song "Naatu Naatu." Several categories, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, and Best Visual Effects, among others, had received submissions for the movie. It should be emphasised that although RRR was absent from all other lists save for Original Song, it still has a possibility to be nominated for Best Picture and Best Director, among other significant categories.
