Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui, whose performance as a transgender woman has taken audiences by surprise, joined Anurag Kashyap in an extraordinary cinematic journey while shooting the climax of 'Haddi.' This gripping revenge drama, which recently made its direct-to-digital debut on ZEE5, has managed to make quite an impact. 'Haddi' stands as a powerful portrayal of the unique challenges and discrimination faced by the transgender community, elegantly woven into a gripping noir revenge narrative.
In an impromptu conversation, director Akshat Ajay Sharma shared the challenging journey the cast had to endure to bring alive this thought-provoking film. He stated, “I didn't want to tell the story of a woeful generation that is a stigma. I didn’t want to tell a sob story with an in-your-face social message. I wanted to tell a story about what happens when you search for the power within you. Amidst the busy 'Haddi' sets, certain moments stand out as the most memorable. However, not everything was smooth sailing. We faced more challenges with the weather during the climax scene - Anurag showed incredible determination by doing it despite having a hurt shoulder and knee, and Nawaz did great with a hurt ankle”.
Akshat Ajay Sharma credited the success of the movie to their interactions with real transgenders. He highlighted how listening to each of their life stories served as a strong backbone to the plot of the movie. These stories accompanied by the dedication and sincere efforts of Anurag Kashyap and Nawazuddin Siddiqui, with indelible support from the cast and crew became the heart of their film ‘Haddi’ underscoring the importance of people’s unbreakable spirits.
