Jiah Khan's mother Rabia Khan says, 'Mujhe toh nirasha CBI se hai', post the court's verdict

On Friday, a special CBI court in Mumbai acquitted Sooraj Pancholi in the 2012 Jiah Khan suicide case. Sooraj Pancholi had been booked for abetment of suicide under section 306 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and was in custody for almost a month until the Bombay high court granted him bail on July 3. However, Jiah Khan's mother, Rabia Khan, who has always maintained that her daughter's death was murder and not suicide, has said they will challenge the judgment. 

Rabia's advocate Shekhar Jagtap stated that they will challenge the judgment after the much-awaited hearing in the case.

Regarding the verdict, Rabia said, "The judgement is not surprising. I anticipated this. Our battle is still on. We will appeal." She added, "The CBI never took an interest in the case."

She said, "So why did they put the charge when they had no evidence." She also said about being disappointed by the decision, "Kis baat ki nirasha, 306 k liye main kyu nirash hojaungi. Mujhe toh nirasha CBI se hai, agency se hai dono agency se jin-hone meri bachi ke murder ko dhar badhar kardia. Bikul ankho mai patti daldi. Maine itni mehnat karke ek ek evidence unke samne rakha. They were shocked. Toh maine bhi socha ki ha ab ye log dekhenge , maine unke liye sara kaam asaan kardia. But unhe ye digest nahi hua. (What should I be disappointed about? I am upset with the CBI and the agency. Both the agencies made a mockery of my daughter's death as if they had completely covered their eyes. I worked hard to collect every evidence and kept it before them; they were even shocked. So I hoped that they might look into it seriously. But alas!)

For the unversed, special CBI Judge A S Sayyed while pronouncing the much-awaited verdict, said, due to paucity of evidence, you have been held not guilty. “You stand acquitted.” While Sooraj Pancholi's mother Zarina Wahab was in tears and told TOI when asked what she had to say, folding her hands and then wiping her eyes said, “I thank God".

Rabia had approached various courts since 2013, claiming that a probe must be conducted on charges of murder. The CBI and the Juhu police, which conducted the probe before it was transferred, both said that no evidence was found to prove that Jiah was murdered.
