A section of social media mocked the Indian presence, calling it the "Chandivalification of the Met," a remark that didn't sit well with actress Janhvi Kapoor.

The 2025 Met Gala turned into a proud moment for India as a dazzling lineup of Indian celebrities made a stunning impression on the global fashion stage. From Shah Rukh Khan and Priyanka Chopra to Kiara Advani and Diljit Dosanjh, Indian stars brought glamour, tradition, and elegance to the Metropolitan Museum of Art's iconic blue carpet. However, not everyone was pleased. A section of social media mocked the Indian presence, calling it the "Chandivalification of the Met," a remark that didn't sit well with actress Janhvi Kapoor.

The statement first appeared on a post by popular Instagram fashion commentary account Diet Sabya, sparking a wave of online debate. Janhvi didn't stay silent. Taking to the comments, the actress clapped back, saying it's high time Indian designers, artisans, and celebrities get the spotlight they truly deserve.

"It was high time. Our artisans and designers are the best in the world. They deserve the spotlight on a global stage like the Met. As do our icons," she wrote. Highlighting the internalized bias some people still carry, she added, "Shouldn't we be happy we're finally getting our due instead of salty about how seeing our own people on this platform is making it seem a little less aspirational? Might I say our garments were amongst the most spectacular. Amusing how we're being almost classist towards ourselves; clearly, colonial trauma hasn't left us."

Janhvi also pointed out how Indian craftsmanship has long been showcased globally without due credit. "For decades, they have borrowed our fabrics, our embroidery, our textiles, our jewellery and presented it as their own. I'm glad our people are finally getting the chance to represent our heritage," she expressed.

The night indeed belonged to India. Shah Rukh Khan stunned in a regal black ensemble by Sabyasachi, while Diljit Dosanjh made a royal statement inspired by Maharaja Bhupinder Singh. Kiara Advani, glowing in her maternity debut, wowed in a sculpted creation by Gaurav Gupta. Fashion bigwigs like Manish Malhotra, Prabal Gurung, and Natasha Poonawalla added further star power to the evening.

As Janhvi rightly said, the 2025 Met Gala wasn't just about fashion, it was about recognition, pride, and reclaiming space on a global platform.
