Janhvi Kapoor can’t stay silent on shocking Thane assault case: “How do you live with yourself?”

Janhvi Kapoor, who is known for her strong opinions, took to Instagram to express her outrage after a horrifying video of a violent assault on a hospital receptionist in Thane’s Kalyan area went viral. The CCTV footage, which has shocked the internet, shows a man brutally attacking a 25-year-old woman at a private hospital after she refused to let him see the doctor without an appointment.

Janhvi, clearly disturbed by the visuals, reposted the video on her Instagram Stories and shared a strong message condemning the violence. “This man needs to be in jail,” she wrote. “Why does anyone think this behaviour is ok? What makes him think he can raise his hand at someone like this?” She questioned the kind of mindset and upbringing that could lead to such actions, adding, “What a shame. And shame on us for not punishing and condoning such behaviour more aggressively. Nothing excuses this.”

The accused, identified as Gokul Jha, is seen kicking the woman, dragging her by the hair, and throwing her to the ground, even as bystanders try to intervene. Following the incident, the woman filed a complaint, and police registered an FIR under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including assault and outraging the modesty of a woman. The accused is currently in police custody, and the receptionist is undergoing treatment in Dombivli.

On the work front, Janhvi Kapoor has a busy slate ahead. Her next film Homebound, directed by Neeraj Ghaywan and co-starring Ishaan Khatter and Vishal Jethwa, is all set to be screened at the Toronto International Film Festival 2025 after a successful showcase at Cannes. She also has Param Sundari opposite Sidharth Malhotra and Dharma Productions’ Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari lined up.

Janhvi’s strong reaction to the assault case proves once again that while she continues to shine on the big screen, she’s equally committed to using her voice off it.
