Mumbai, Oct 9 (IANS) Doctors Tuesday refuted TV news channel reports that ghazal maestro Jagjit Singh had been admitted to Bombay Hospital for a paralytic stroke and clarified that he had only complained of a headache and weakness.

'Singh was brought to the hospital Monday. He was taken to the ICU where doctors examined him and conducted tests. He didn't have a paralytic stroke,' Ashish Tiwari, the spokesperson of the hospital, told IANS.

The 66-year-old singer reached the hospital Monday with wife Chitra and complained of a headache and weakness. 'He is stable and we have shifted him to the private ward today,' said Tiwari.

Singh, who is one of the best-known ghazal singers in the country, had launched his latest album 'Karuna' Sep 24 at the Iskcon Temple here.

Apart from producing albums privately, he has sung for many films as well. Some of his memorable ghazals are 'Hontho se choo lo tum, mera geet amar kar do', 'Jhuki jhuki si nazar', 'Tumko dekha to' and 'Tum itna jo muskura raheho'.

He is credited to have revived the ghazal singing tradition in the country along with wife Chitra and enjoys a huge fan following. But Chitra stopped singing after their son Vivek's death in a tragic car accident in Mumbai. Singh however didn't because he saw it as a way to overcome the great loss.

Singh, who is said to be the highest taxpayer in the music industry in 2006, is involved in lots of charity work and most of his earnings go to NGOs like CRY and ALMA.
