Actor Siddhant Chaturvedi has responded to filmmaker Anurag Kashyap’s recent remarks linking Ananya Panday’s professional growth to his comment during a 2020 roundtable discussion on nepotism. Kashyap had stated that Ananya showed noticeable self-awareness and evolution as an actor after Siddhant’s viral remark on the disparity between insiders and outsiders in Bollywood.

Speaking to ETimes, Siddhant made it clear that he doesn't claim any part in Ananya’s journey as an actor. “I don’t think it’s my contribution. Independently, she is a very strong girl, very, very talented, and a nice person to be with,” he said.

The remark in question came from a panel discussion where Siddhant had pointedly said, “Jahaan humare sapne poore hote hain, wahi inka struggle shuru hota hai,” referring to the gap between outsiders’ aspirations and insiders’ challenges. The line went viral and sparked a renewed wave of debate on nepotism in the Hindi film industry.

Siddhant and Ananya have worked together in two films so far: Gehraiyaan and Kho Gaye Hum Kahan. Reflecting on their collaborations, Siddhant spoke about their chemistry and shared success. “Whenever we have collaborated, it has worked. I think we are each other’s lucky charm,” he said. However, he maintained that real growth, as an actor, is internal. “Either you are an actor, or you are not. She was always an actress. It’s just that she got those opportunities and she excelled.”

His response comes at a time when Ananya Panday is being recognised for showing more maturity in her performances. While Kashyap’s intention may have been to highlight her growth, Siddhant made it clear that her development is her own.

On the work front, Siddhant will next be seen in Dhadak 2, directed by Shazia Iqbal. The film, produced by Dharma Productions, also stars Triptii Dimri and explores themes of class divide and rebellion. It is set for a theatrical release on 1 August. Ananya, meanwhile, continues to be part of multiple high-profile projects across film and OTT.
