'I have to do something different to survive' - Vineet Singh

Vineet Singh, the runner-up of SaReGaMaPa Challenge 2005 and now a contestant of Jo Jeeta Wohi Superstar, has been giving one best performance after another. After getting into the Champion side, he now eyes to win the contest. We caught up with him to know his experience in the contest and his future plans.

How has your experience been in Joh Jeeta Wohi Superstar?
Outstanding, mind-blowing, superb and fantastic!!! I think these words sum it all.

You have been embroiled in controversy right from day one in this series. Why do you think that is happening?
I think it is good. I think whatever controversy has happened with me is all positive ones and not negative ones. Controversy happens only when a person is doing well on the show, by singing the best and giving 100 percent. Even if controversy happens, I take it very lightly and focus only on singing. Once, there was a misunderstanding between me and Toshi, but that was also a positive one. There was nothing like I kissed someone and came into the limelight!!

How have you improved as a singer in the past three years?
I used to sing even when I was not part of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa. But in these three years I have learnt a lot. Before, my singing was confined to Rafi Sir's songs which used to touch hearts, but today one has to be flexible with what the audience wishes to hear. One has to move along with time to be a successful playback singer. There are many people who like Rafi sir's songs but there are very few directors who would compose such type of songs as I feel the trend is gone. I respect Rafi ji and he is my Idol, but I have to do something different if I have to survive!!

As the popular belief would have been, is it that you are carrying over your animosity with Debojit even in this show?
To be frank, there is no tension between us. Whatever has happened has happened; now everything is fine between us. I respect him as big brother. In fact I had also sung a song where I tried pulling legs of Debojit Bhaiya, but its all part of fun. I truly love him.

Who do you think is your biggest contenders?
Well I can say that there are many people who get really good votes but otherwise I am not afraid. I am very confident and believe in stars a lot. I guess there is one singer, whom I feel can defeat me, but I won't name. I think the audience knows who I am talking about!!

Name one performance of any participant, either from Challengers or Champions that touched your heart the most.
I liked Rahul's performance on the song Ramta Jogi. I think it was outstanding!! It had fire and judges gave a standing ovation. I think everyone is singing well and the best is yet to come!

It is heard that you always get the influence of Himesh Reshamiya?
I think, I am very fortunate that the best singer of the industry Himesh Sir is always there for me. He is also making an album for me. Not every one gets a Godfather in the industry but I am very lucky that I have him. I will try to impress him with my singing and would always want him to support me this way.

Your future projects?
I am singing in Kamal Hassan's next movie Dashavataram, which is the biggest movie and I really hope that it becomes a big hit.
