Nearly five years after the tragic demise of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed its closure report, stating that the actor died by suicide and that no foul play was involved. Reacting to this, Rhea Chakraborty’s lawyer, Satish Maneshinde, expressed his gratitude towards the CBI for conducting a thorough investigation into the matter.
In his statement, Maneshinde said, “We are grateful to the CBI for having thoroughly investigated every aspect of the case from all angles and closed the case.” He also strongly criticised the media for spreading false narratives, which led to immense suffering for Chakraborty and her family.
Maneshinde pointed out how the media played a major role in shaping public opinion against Rhea Chakraborty. He said, “The amount of false narrative in the social media and electronic media was totally uncalled for. Due to the pandemic, everyone was glued to the TV and social media, and in the absence of any major developments, innocent people were hounded and paraded before the media and investigative authorities.”
He further spoke about the emotional and mental toll the case took on Chakraborty and her family. “I salute her and her family for having kept silent and yet suffered the inhuman treatment they were meted.”
Rhea Chakraborty was accused of abetment to suicide by Rajput’s family. Later, she was arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in a drug-related case linked to the investigation. She spent 27 days in jail before being granted bail by the Bombay High Court.
Maneshinde concluded his statement by saying, “This country is still very safe, and every citizen crying for justice has hope due to our vibrant judiciary.”
Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead in his Mumbai apartment on June 14, 2020. His death sparked nationwide debates, with many questioning the circumstances. Now, with the CBI officially closing the case, the legal battle surrounding his tragic demise has finally come to an end.
