Actor Hemant Kher, popularly know for his role of Ashwin Mehta in Scam 1922 has been seen in other projects like Unpaused, Notebook and Whistle Blower, among others. And now, he returned to the screen in a different avatar in the cop drama Rudra: The Edge of Darkness. He is seen playing the character of a psycho-killer, Mahesh Dubey, and the audience has clearly seen a different side to Hemant in the project.

It's the first time you are playing such a dark character, don't you fear being typecast?

This is the first time I am playing such role and that’s the trick to staying away from being typecast. I would always play a role that I have not played before and that’s why I refused many roles similar to Ashwin Mehta after Scam 1992. You can see me in a completely different avatar, even in The Whistleblower!

Why did you take up the role?

For the risk of it. It’s like walking on a string at the height of mountains. If you lose the balance, you are gone. I was aware of this risk but as we all know, ‘risk hai toh ishq hai!’ *smiles*

How was it working with Ajay Devgn?

It was so much of learning and understanding. He is a gem, a great human and a very graceful senior actor. I not only enjoyed working with him but had experienced a fan boy moment being around him.
