Born
on 27th December 19 to screen-writer Salim Khan and
Sushila Charak, Khan is the elder brother of Arbaaz Khan, Sohail
Khan, Alvira Khan and Arpita Khan. Actress Helen is his step-mother
and actor-director-producer Atul Agnihotri is his brother-in-law. He attended Scindia School, Gwalior and St. Stanislaus
High School in Bandra, Mumbai.
Khan
made his acting debut with Biwi Ho To Aisi in 1988 as a
supporting role but it was Sooraj R. Barjatya's romantic family drama
Maine Pyar Kiya (1989) that brought Khan into limelight.
His performance in the film as Prem received immense appreciation and
love from the audience and critics alike. Since then, Khan appeared in over
eighty films and established himself as one of the most popular
leading actor in Hindi Cinema. His most memorable works till date
include Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! (1994), Hum Saath Saath Hain
(1999), Tere Naam (2003), Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya (2005), Partner (2007), Dabangg (2010) and Ek Tha Tiger (2012). Khan has acted
in various films over the decades and has done different types of
roles: the Prem that won our hearts by his funny antics in Hum
Aapke Hai Koun..!, the silent
mama's boy in Hum Saath Saath Hain,
the rowdy-lover in Tere Naam and the fearless Robin Hood Pandey in
Dabangg: he has done it all!
Khan
is not only an actor but also a host, producer, singer, mentor and
philanthropist. The superstar hosted Dus Ka Dum (2008),
Big Boss Season 4 (2010), Big Boss Season 5 along with Sanjay Dutt
(2011), Big Boss Season 6 (2012), Big Boss Season 7 (2013) and is currently hosting Big
Boss Season 8 (2014). He produced a children's film Chillar Party
(2011) and Dr. Cabbie (2014) under his production house Salman
Khan Being Human Productions (SKBHP). As a singer, the superstar first lent his voice for younger brother, Sohail Khan's film, Hello
Brother (1999). He sang the super-hit song "Chandi Ki
Dhal Par" along with Alka Yagnik. He then sang the title song of
Bodyguard in 2011 and recently sang the entire album of the
blockbuster Kick (2014). As a mentor, Khan has mentored many aspiring
Bollywood actors, including Hrithik Roshan, Katrina Kaif, Sonakshi
Sinha, Arjun Kapoor and Pulkit Samrat. Last but not the least, Khan
has an NGO called Being Human which sells T-shirts and other
products online and in stores. Through his NGO, Khan helps the
underprivileged and special needs' children.
Khan
has Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo in his
kitty, both releasing in 2015.
