Aamir Khan speaks on 'Andaz Apna Apna 2'—Will the cult comedy ever get its sequel?

Aamir Khan has addressed the long-standing buzz around Andaz Apna Apna 2, saying it’s still too early to confirm the sequel. The cult comedy from 1994, which starred Aamir and Salman Khan as Amar and Prem, has remained a fan favourite, with talks of a sequel surfacing time and again.

Speaking to Bollywood Hungama, Aamir revealed that director Rajkumar Santoshi is currently working on the script. However, he made it clear that no final decision has been taken. “I really believe that scripts have to come out organically. So Raj Santoshi is working on a version of Andaz Apna Apna 2, but it’s too early for me to say that it’s being made,” Aamir said. He added that both he and Salman will only give the green light if the script truly appeals to them. “Until the script is ready and both Salman and I don’t love what he narrates and we say yes — until then, the film actually won’t be greenlit.”

This is not the first time Aamir has spoken about a potential sequel. His earlier remarks sparked reactions from the family of late producer Vinay Kumar Sinha, who helmed the original film. Sinha's children clarified that Aamir was not involved in the production back then and stated they have no intention of parting with the rights to either Aamir or Rajkumar Santoshi.

They responded, “Aamir was never a producer, he was just an actor. We will never sell the rights to him or Rajkumar Santoshi.” At the same time, they acknowledged the long-standing discussions between their father and Santoshi during his lifetime, showing cautious optimism about the project.

As of now, the sequel remains uncertain. While Santoshi is working on a draft, and both lead actors have expressed interest, nothing has been officially locked.

The original Andaz Apna Apna may not have been a box office hit upon release, but it went on to achieve cult status over the years. Fans continue to wait in the hope that Amar and Prem might once again grace the big screen—with the same madness and charm.
