Actor Vir Das says he feels lucky to be a part of "31st October", a film on the aftermath of the 1984 Sikh riots.

Vir features in the movie with Soha Ali Khan, and he feels humbled by the appreciation that has come their way, especially from some of the survivors of the incident.

"It was an emotional moment for me and the team when survivors came to us and appreciated our effort...I feel lucky to be a part of such a project and look forward to spreading more such stories which our country should actually know," Vir said in statement.

The actor, who portrays a Sikh character named Davinder Singh in the film, says it was important to show what the Sikh community went through in 1984 after Indira Gandhi's assassination.

"Everyone talks about war with other countries, but nobody really knows what happened in the country itself. So, it was very important to show what the Sikhs went through in 1984 because nobody really knew the actual truth," he added.

The film has been declared tax free in Punjab as government officials felt it tells an important story.
