In a recent development, the manager of One8 Commune-Bengaluru, a restaurant co-owned by Indian cricketer Virat Kohli, has found himself in legal trouble. The issue arose due to allegations of the restaurant operating beyond the allowed hours. An FIR has been lodged at the Cubbon Park Police Station in Bengaluru.
According to a report by India Today, the police have also registered FIRs against several other establishments on MG Road for similar violations. The Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Central reported that the pubs were found open until 1:30 am, despite the mandated closing time being 1:00 am.
The police action followed numerous complaints from residents about loud music playing late into the night. One8 Commune-Bengaluru, located near the M Chinnaswamy Cricket Stadium, was among the venues named in the police report. A police officer mentioned, “We received complaints of loud music being played at night. The investigation is ongoing, and further action will be taken accordingly.”
One8 Commune has branches in major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, and Kolkata. The Bengaluru branch, which opened in December 2023, is situated on the 6th floor of Ratnam’s Complex on Kasturba Road, offering scenic views of the cricket stadium. This isn’t the first time Kohli’s café has faced controversy. Last year, a man from Tamil Nadu posted a video on social media, claiming he was denied entry to the Mumbai branch for wearing a "veshti" (traditional Tamil attire). He expressed feeling "disappointed" and "hurt" by the incident.
Additionally, the restaurant chain was in the news last year when the Delhi High Court restricted them from playing songs copyrighted by Phonographic Performance Limited (PPL).
As of now, neither Virat Kohli nor his team has commented on the recent case. Kohli is currently in London with his wife Anushka Sharma and their children, Vamika and Akaay, celebrating India’s victory in the T20 World Cup against South Africa.
