Baby John Box Office Collection Day 1: Varun Dhawan’s actioner becomes his biggest opener in Last 5 years

Varun Dhawan's Baby John hit the big screens on Christmas, December 25. The movie had quite the impressive beginning at the box office. Atlee-produced and Kalees-directed, Baby John marks Varun's debut in the 'mass' action genre.

As per Sacnilk, Baby John earned around Rs 12.5 crore in India on its opening day, while Pushpa 2 brought in Rs 19.75 crore. Baby John stands as Varun Dhawan's most successful opening in the last 5 years. Prior to this, his 2019 film Kalank, which also starred Alia Bhatt, Madhuri Dixit, Sanjay Dutt, Aditya Roy Kapur, and Sonakshi Sinha, garnered Rs 21.60 crore on its first day. Varun's recent releases like Street Dancer 3D (2020), Jug Jugg Jeeyo (2022), and Bhediya (2022) fell short of achieving a double-digit opening at the box office.

On its first day, Baby John had a 24.97 percent Hindi occupancy. The movie was screened in 1046 shows in Delhi-NCR, with a 25.75 percent occupancy, and 801 shows in the Mumbai region, with a 26.25 percent occupancy. However, it couldn't match the collections of Mufasa: The Lion King or Pushpa 2: The Rule. Pushpa 2, now running for three weeks, surpassed Baby John's opening day earnings by making Rs 19.75 crore on its 21st day, with Rs 15 crore from its Hindi shows. Mufasa earned Rs 14.25 crore on its sixth day, benefiting from a holiday boost in collections.

Produced by Jyoti Deshpande, Murad Khetani, Atlee, and Priya Atlee, Baby John is presented under the banners of Jio Studios, Cine1 Studios, Vipin Agnihotri Films, and A for Apple Productions. The musical score is composed by Thaman S, with Kiran Koushik handling the cinematography and Ruben editing the film.
