Avalanche warning sounded in Himachal Pradesh

Shimla, Feb 6 (IANS) A low avalanche warning was sounded Friday in high-altitude areas of Himachal Pradesh and people living in the region were advised to remain indoors, officials said.

Shimla, Feb 6 (IANS) A low avalanche warning was sounded Friday in high-altitude areas of Himachal Pradesh and people living in the region were advised to remain indoors, officials said.

'People living in high altitudes, particularly in Kullu, Lahaul and Spiti and Kinnaur districts and Bharmour areas in Chamba district, have been advised not to venture out as a low avalanche danger exists in the next 24 hours,' said an official of the Chandigarh-based Snow and Avalanche Study Establishment (SASE).

Tribal areas of the state, meanwhile, had another spell of snowfall Friday, while mid hills received moderate rain.

According to the meteorological office here, Keylong, the district headquarter of Lahaul and Spiti, received 6.5 cm snow, while Rohtang Pass, located at 13,050 feet, and Solang ski slopes in Kullu district received light to moderate snowfall.

Popular tourist resort Manali received 15.8 mm rain, Bhuntar 2.2 mm, Solan 4 mm and Hamirpur 1.6 mm. Shimla received mild rainfall.
