'Audience won't accept heroine who is a BUSINESS TYCOON': Jhanak's Chandni Sharma on show's REGRESSIVE story

Chandni Sharma, who essays the negative lead in Star Plus' show Jhanak, got in an exclusive chat with India Forums and spoke about the show taking a leap. The actor commented on the show being termed 'regressive' and shared her opinion on the same.

How did you come to know that the show is taking a leap?

We were informed about the same through a mail. We were told that the show is taking a leap.

What do you think went wrong that the makers had to take such a huge step?

Nothing went wrong. I think every show takes a leap. Abhi Ghum Hai Kisikey Pyaar Meiin took a leap, phir Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai ne liya, toh bas yahi hai. Star Plus leaps leta hi hai, so yes, it is that only. I do not think anything went wrong.

The show's content was often labelled 'regressive' by a huge section of the audience. What is your take on the same? Do you agree Jhanak is a regressive show?

Well, that is how TV works and it is the sad reality. Have you ever seen a TV show where the heroine is a buisness tycoon? Obviously no. Aisa content aapko web mein dekhne ko milega ya phir films mein. Waha regressive content nahi hota. I do not remember which last film I saw that was regressive. Films and OTT ki audience alag hai, they want to see real cinema. On the contrary, TV ki audience is different. Not you and me, but there are people who are watching the show from a small village of Harayana or Uttar Pradesh, or any other state. TV ki audience chote shehro se hai and they will not relate to watching a heroine who is a buisness tycoon. This is the country where Naagin works. And then we have to accept that at the end of the day it is buisness, we have to deliver what the audience wants to watch. Ab dekho, ek chote se gaon mein jaa kar main Prada ka showroom khol loon toh chalega kya? Nahi na, that is the case here. Regressive story se ye dikhate hai hum ke kaise heroine itni mushkilo ke baad bhi haar nahi maanti.
