Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has once again sparked conversation online, this time slamming the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and calling out the double standards surrounding caste-based content in Indian cinema. Taking to Instagram, the director shared a bold message that questioned the logic behind recent censorship decisions on films like Phule and Dhadak 2.
In his post, Kashyap wrote that during Dhadak 2’s screening, someone from the censor board apparently claimed that “Modi ji ne India mein caste system khatam kar diya hai.” Referring to this statement, he said, “Usi aadhar pe Santosh bhi India mein release nahin hui.” The director expressed frustration at the hypocrisy, pointing out that if casteism doesn’t exist, then why do Brahmins have an issue with Phule, a film based on the lives of social reformers Jyotiba and Savitribai Phule.
He wrote, “Bhaiya, jab caste system hi nahin hai to kahe ka Brahmin. Kaun ho aap. Aap ki kyon sulag rahi hai?” Kashyap further added, “Jab caste system tha nahin toh Jyotiba Phule aur Savitribai kyon the?” questioning the very logic of censoring films that portray historical caste realities.
The filmmaker didn’t hold back and directly addressed Brahmin outrage, stating, “Ya toh aap ka Brahminism exist hi nahin karta, kyon ki Modi jinke hisaab se India mein caste system nahin hai?” He continued, “Ya sab log milke sab ko chu*** bana rahe ho.”

The post has sparked strong reactions online, with many applauding the filmmaker for speaking up, while others remain divided on his language and approach. This statement adds to Kashyap’s long-standing criticism of censorship and the challenges faced by politically and socially relevant cinema in India.
As the release date of Phule approaches, eyes are now on CBFC’s final decision and whether the film will be allowed to reach the audience in its original form.
