The upcoming romantic drama starring Kartik Aaryan and directed by Anurag Basu was initially expected to arrive during the Diwali 2025 window. However, the project has now been pushed to 2026. The film, which also stars Sreeleela, has generated interest for being a musical love story, and for reportedly placing Kartik in a role very different from his previous work.
Though the makers have not officially announced the title, there has been speculation that the film is connected to the Aashiqui franchise. Despite that, ongoing legal proceedings over title rights with Vishesh Films have prevented any confirmation on the franchise status. Still, reports suggest the iconic theme from Aashiqui will feature in the film in a reworked version.
As the release shift drew attention, some reports claimed that the postponement was linked to the success of Mohit Suri’s recent film Saiyaara. Both stories reportedly involve themes of young musicians and complex romantic dynamics, leading to speculation that the delay was to avoid overlap in audience perception. Some in the industry indicated that the two films might share narrative elements, prompting the team behind Basu’s project to consider rewrites and reshoots.
Responding to these claims in a conversation with India Today, Anurag Basu dismissed the idea that Saiyaara had any influence on their production timeline. He said, “Given that both films feature performers as central characters, we knew comparisons would be drawn. But the two films are completely different from each other.”
He further addressed the shift in the release date, saying it had more to do with schedules than script changes. “Kartik was busy with Karan Johar’s film (Tu Meri Main Tera, Main Tera Tu Meri), and I was also occupied with Metro’s release. We’ll soon move on to our next schedule and aim to wrap the film soon,” Basu added.

Production is expected to resume later this year, with further announcements regarding the title and music likely to follow.
