Andaz Apna Apna 2 in Trouble? Producer’s Kids Refuse to Sell Rights to Aamir Khan or Rajkumar Santoshi

Aamir Khan created a wave of excitement among fans when he announced that a sequel to Andaz Apna Apna is in the pipeline. The actor made this big reveal on his birthday, saying that director Rajkumar Santoshi is working on the script and both he and Salman Khan are interested in being part of the sequel. However, the late producer Vinay Kumar Sinha’s children have now come forward to clear the air about the rights to the film.

In a recent interview with Lehren Retro, Priti Sinha, Amod Sinha, and Namrata Sinha stated that they still hold the rights to Andaz Apna Apna, and no such rights have been given to either Aamir Khan or Rajkumar Santoshi. When asked about Aamir and Santoshi’s involvement in the sequel, they said, “Aamir was never a producer (of the film), he was just an actor. We will never sell the rights to him or Rajkumar Santoshi.”

They further added that their father and Rajkumar Santoshi had many discussions about making the sequel. “Yes, Aamir said that Rajkumar Santoshi is writing Andaz Apna Apna 2, and we are very excited about it. But I do want to tell you that in our father’s lifetime, for the longest time, Raj ji and Dad kept meeting and talking about a sequel,” they said. Although a contract was nearly finalised, the script was never completed. “Raj ji kept saying he was writing the sequel, but it never happened. Now, only he can answer why it didn’t happen in my dad’s lifetime.”

When asked whether they would consider Rajkumar Santoshi as director if the sequel is made, Priti said, “We are not sure. We haven’t decided yet. Everyone can say they are writing the film. But if the producers don’t announce the film, then it’s only talk.”

The siblings also shared that Salman Khan once advised them to re-release the film when he was filming Ready. Paresh Rawal even suggested promoting it online. While both Aamir and Salman supported the idea, they claimed Rajkumar Santoshi didn’t join the promotions due to being busy with Lahore 1947.

Andaz Apna Apna, now a cult classic, re-released in theatres today, 25 April, for its loyal fanbase.
