Akshay Kumar’s Bell Bottom to not have a theatrical release? In talks with OTT platform

After months of lockdown, the nation has slowly moved towards an unlock phase and just like other businesses, the entertainment is also getting back on track.

After a long break, cinema halls have opened doors, however, film producers are still not very sure about releasing their films on the big screen as it is unclear if the audiences are willing to come to theatres in this post pandemic situation. During the lockdown, several films including big banners and A lister actors opted for a direct to digital release and the OTT platforms have now garnered immense popularity.

Another big banner film that is reportedly eyeing a direct to digital release is Akshay Kumar’s Bell Bottom. If reports are to be believed, the makers will skip a theatrical release and are currently in talks with a leading OTT platform for a digital release.

“The producers of Bell Bottom – Jackky Bhagnani and Vashu Bhagnani – have started conversations with Amazon Prime to explore the possibility of a direct to digital release, and so far, both the parties seem to be on the same page”, a source informs Bollywood Hungama.

Few months ago, the makers dropped the film’s poster and confirmed that Bell Bottom will release in cinemas on 2 April 2021. While the new reports suggest otherwise, there has been no confirmation from the makers, and the source adds that a theatrical release for the film seems far away from possible as Kumar’s another film Sooryavanshi is yet to lock in a release date along with his other projects.

“The Bhagnani’s share a close bond with the digital platform and so does Akshay, and that’s how the meeting happened. All stakeholders are currently working towards arriving at terms and conditions that are beneficial to all of them,” the source further added.

Speaking of Bell Bottom, the film is a spy thriller set in the 80s starring Akshay Kumar as a detective and Vaani Kapoor as the leading lady. Directed by Ranjit M Tewari, the film is produced by Vashu Bhagnani, Jacky Bhagnani, Deepshikha Deshmukh, Monisha Advani, Madhu Bhojwani and Nikkhil Advani.
