It has been a tough period for superstar Akshay Kumar at the box office for a while now, where since the last few films, not much has worked and reaped in the numbers you expect an Akshay Kumar film to rake in. The likes of Bell Bottom, Bachchhan Pandey, Samrat Prithviraj, Raksha Bandhan, Ram Setu and most shockingly, Selfiee have all tanked at the box office, thus raising several conversations.

There was some respite coming in a couple of months ago when OMG 2 released and garnered big numbers at about 150 crores at the box office. Now, with Mission Raniganj having been released, the actor sat down for a special conversation as he talked about several things but gave some interesting insights about the box office.

He mentioned that the films are currently going through a 'nice phase' where content-driven films are also doing good business and that he chooses to do both kinds of films - content and masala entertainers. The question was specifically directed at Mission Raniganj's box office collection, to which he asked not to put pressure on him by thinking about what business the film does.

He cited the likes of Toilet: Ek Prem Katha (2017) and Pad Man (2018), among others, as examples where when he signed those films, his decision to do that raised eyebrows and had several people giving their opinions. He further reiterated that he shouldn't be discouraged by thinking about the business side of it and instead asked everyone to give him the courage that at least these kinds of films are being made and we are showing it to our children.

In the meantime, Mission Raniganj opened to surprisingly low numbers, only collecting Rs 2.8 crores at the box office on Day one.

Sorry to say but this movie had no promotion. I wasn't even aware that an Akshay movie was releasing in Oct. No buzz, no hype. Akshay needs to check the quality of the movies instead of quantity.
