After Rani Padmavati, Deepika Padukone to play Draupadi next!

Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone is all set to take the nation by storm once again as she gears up for her next project. The actress will not only essay the role of Draupadi in Mahabharat but she is all set to co-produce the movie with Madhu Mantena. 

Being told in a female perspective for the first time on the big screen, Deepika told Mumbai Mirror, “We all know the Mahabharat for its mythological tales and socio-cultural influence. We derive many of life's lessons from the epic. But the narrative we are most familiar with is that of the epic's leading men. This new perspective will be not only interesting but also significant.”

As per the leading daily, sharing Draupadi’s journey of her life, from her birth in Panchala to her role in the destruction of the Kauravas, in just 3 hours would not suffice due to which the Deepika as well as Mantena are planning to create a multi-part franchise, with the first edition slated to release in Diwali 2021.

While talking about the project, the 33-year-old actress revealed that producing such a big-scale project is a daunting task, but the role and opportunity is received once in a lifetime. She said, “While I'm thrilled and honoured, I'm also nervous and can only hope that we are able to create something that we can all be proud of. I believe this is the role and opportunity of a lifetime.”

Talking about the project producer Madhu Mantena shared told Mumbai Mirror, “While we have all consumed the Mahabharat all our lives, the uniqueness of our film is seeing the same story from the point of view of Draupadi, who is one of the most significant heroines in our country’s cultural history. And Deepika is not just the biggest Indian actress today, but someone who can take this narrative across borders. If it weren’t with her, we would not be making this film on such an ambitious scale.”

The producer also revealed that they are in search for a director who could give shape to their vision. The duo is also in discussion with leading actors to step into the pivotal roles of Yudhishthir, Arjuna, Bheem, Nakul and Sahdev. Further adding that the rest of the cast and creative team soon.

Talking about Deepika Padukone, from Cocktail, Ram Leela, Chennai Express, Bajirao Mastani, Piku to Padmaavat, she has always managed to capture the hearts of the audience by essay in many powerful roles in career. Recently, the actress took up production as well. 

After announcing her maiden production Chhapaak, which is directed by Meghna Gulzar and revolves around acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal, the Padmaavat actress then announced her co-producing Kabir Khan’s ’83 which stars her husband Ranveer Singh as Kapil Dev, making Mahabharat her third venture. 

We can certainly say Deepika is on a roll!
