With many shows adopting novel story-lines apart from the clichéd saas-bahu sagas and breaking several stereotypes, actresses on television also undertake a mammoth task of playing a powerful and challenging character on-screen. We list the handful actresses who are young in their real life but play the emotionally challenging character of a widow on-screen.




1. Toral Rasputra as Anandi in Balika Vadhu

'Balika Vadhu' entered into the elite category when it was launched with a bold concept of child marriage and now the longest running show on Indian television and several character changes, Toral's character, the main protagonist (Anandi) became a widow as a major plot twist with the death of her husband, Shivraj (Siddharth Shukla).
2. Eisha Singh as Dhaani in Ishq Ka Rang Safed

Revolving around the concept of widow re-marriage, 'Ishq Ka Rang Safed' was launched breaking many mindsets. The lead protagonist, Eisha Singh is just 16 years old in real life while she plays a challenging character on-screen.
3. Pooja Singh as Emily in Diya Aur Baati Hum

One of the major plot twists in the show, 'Diya Aur Baati Hum' was the death of the character of Mohit Rathi (Varun Jain) leaving his young wife, Emily Mohit Rathi (Pooja Singh) widowed.

A show which is based on the plot of child widow, 'Gangaa' was launched this year to critical acclaim, where little Ruhana Khanna was cast as the protagonist which she played with finesse.
